Life Marker
The Concept
The Life Marker is a 3D-printed clay memorial monument that forms both a place of remembrance and a source of biodiversity. The urn or grave marker transforms into a living environment where the deceased continues to exist through new life, while flora, fauna, and small organisms such as ladybirds find a habitat within it.

Personal and local
Thanks to 3D printing technology, each monument can be uniquely designed to reflect the individual and the wishes of their loved ones.
In addition, the design can be tailored to local flora and fauna, ensuring that the monument is optimally integrated into the biodiversity of its surroundings.

How does it work?
The monument contains 3D-printed structures, crevices, and openings that provide shelter and nesting places for insects and other small organisms.
A memory that lives on in nature
Context & status
First prototypes have been developed and exhibited during Dutch Design Week. We are currently in discussions with stakeholders in the funeral industry about further development and application.
